To encourage sports, grants to primary schools increased by 40%

In order to encourage sporting activities, the State Government has decided to increase the grant under the relevant head by 40 per cent.
According to a senior official of the State Education Department, monetary grant for encouraging various sports is provided to each of the around 58,000 government and government-aided primary schools every year, which will now be increased by 40 per cent.
To use up the additional funds, the schools have also been asked to introduce new activities. According to the official, for this purpose, Rs 3 crore has been allocated in the current financial year, which will now be increased to Rs 4.2 crore.
For the purpose of convenience, the primary schools in the State are divided into 723 circles.
