12 plots selected for Nijoshree Scheme

The State Government has selected 12 urban plots till now across various districts for the Nijoshree Scheme. The plots are of four sizes – 15 cottahs, 20 cottahs, 30 cottahs and 40 cottahs. The government has given the go-ahead to the district magistrates to call for tenders for the construction of the flats.

The project monitoring committee led by the State’s chief secretary has selected the plots. More plots will be selected. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced the scheme after a cabinet meeting on June 20.

The scheme envisions construction of flats for people in two income brackets – Rs 15,000 or less and Rs 15,001 to Rs 30,000. For the former group, the flats would be of the 1 BHK type, with an area of a little more than 400 square feet (sq ft), and would cost Rs 7.2 lakh while for the latter group, the flats would be of the 2 BHK type, with an area of a little more than 500 sq ft, and would cost Rs 9.28 lakh.

All the apartments will be four-storey ones, excluding the ground floor. There will be four types of apartments based on the number of flats – consisting of 16 flats, 32 flats and 64 flats.
