Bangla Govt’s prize-winning Sundarini Naturals brand going for product diversification

Riding on its big success in recent times, the State Government’s milk, dairy and farm products brand, Sundarini Naturals is diversifying into sweets and aromatic rice. On June 1, on the occasion of World Milk Day, Sundarini Naturals was awarded by the National Dairy Development Board for its superior quality of dairy products.
Sundarini is a brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and was rolled out in 2015 to empower women of the Sundarbans. It is owned by Sundarban Cooperative Milk and Livestock Producers’ Limited (SCMLPL), which is an initiative of State Animal Resources Development Department, and is currently into the manufacturing of packaged milk, ghee, honey, rice, sona moong dal, eggs and paneer.
According to a senior official of SCMLPL, the organisation will be rolling out sweets like rosogolla, gulab jamun and kaju barfi and aromatic rice varieties like harinakhuri, gobindobhog, kalabhaat and radhatilak in package form.
The cooperative scores over others for its adoption of organic methods for every step – from milk collection to transportation to its dairy plant in Joynagar to manufacturing of the milk products, be they ghee or paneer or now, sweets.
The cows are also not injected with antibiotics, and what they are fed – corn, sargam, and ajola and barshim grass – are also grown organically. Milk is never poured into plastic containers. It is stored in steel containers so that the quality is not compromised.
The cooperative presently has 3,500 all-women members and 65 cooperative societies, spanning across 65 villages at seven blocks in the Sundarbans region.
