Partha Pratim Roy speaks on the need to reopen the immigration check-post at Gitaldaha

FULL TRANSCRIPT
Thank you Sir, for giving me the opportunity to speak. regarding the reopening of immigration check-post (ICP) at Gitaldaha, Cooch Behar. Sir, you know, under the Cooch Behar district, there were two immigration checkposts – one at Gitaldaha and another at Changrabandha. After a order in 2002, the Gitaldaha ICP was closed.
Since the closure of the ICP at Gitaldaha the safety and security of the residents have been compromised and it badly affected the local economy. Gitaldaha connects to a town called Mogulhat in Bangladesh. Because of this road connection there were two-way trade connecting the villages and this border was used by at least 500 travelers every day.
This has helped the local hotels and transport workers, but now people from Dinhata division who want to travel to Bangladesh have to travel 200 km to Changrabandha to cross the border, which is a complete waste of time. I therefore request the government to consider the issue on an urgent basis and reopen the ICP at Gitaldaha on Indo-Bangladesh border.
Thank you, Sir.
