Farewell speech of Debabrata Bandyopadhyay in Rajya Sabha

FULL TRANSCRIPT
Sir, I stand today not to support or to oppose any Bill or any proposal. I stand here to bid farewell.
Six years ago, I entered this House. Though old in age, I was novice in the matter of internal functioning of the House. But, this House, once you enter, is a friendly place. Bitter debates do not result in any personal acrimony because, one fights here for some ideology, or, for some cause, not for self.
I have a problem in my right knee; all the members of the Group-D staff always stretched their hands to help me. I thank them.
Unaccustomed to public speaking, I often jumbled up my sentences; reporters always unjumbled them and produced a flawless copy. I thank them.
The Chairman, the Vice Chairman, members of the Panel of Chairpersons had all been highly considerate to this old man. I thank all of them.
Lastly, I owe an obligation to my fellow members, cutting across the party lines, for their kind considerate and friendly behaviour. My only regret is that, I cannot use this unique experience elsewhere because the moment of my final exit is coming very soon.
I leave this place with good behaviour towards everybody and malice towards none. God bless us all.
Vande Mataram.
