Four new police stations on the anvil in Kolkata
A week after the state gave its go-ahead to four women police stations in Kolkata, the Home department has sent the proposal to create four more regular police stations to the finance department for the latter’s approval.
A proposal to extend the Kolkata Police jurisdiction in some other areas of South 24-Parganas is also under active consideration and Garia is likely to come under Kolkata Police jurisdiction.
Now, only four police stations occupy areas equal or above 10 square kilometres. These are Haridevpur, Parnasree, North Port and Pragati Maidan police stations.
Arrangements are being made for four more police stations, South Behala, Barisha, Rajdanga and Golf Green. While these police stations will be covering the added areas, there is a separate proposal to add four more police stations in the Kolkata core area.
