Thousands throng Kali Puja at WB CM’s residence

Hours before people began arriving at her Kalighat home in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee could be seen walking briskly from one place to another, ensuring that all details were in place — the seating arrangement for those who’d eat bhog, the newly installed blue-and-white metal partition for people to walk through and security arrangements to ensure that there was no stampede.
Apart from thousands of people from across the state, those present included senior party leaders, police officers, bureaucrats and movie stars.Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim and Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chaterjee, flanked the Chief Minister, occasionally asking people in the restricted section to remain seated. She also spent time with senior citizens from ‘Nabaneer’.
Afterwards, the CM cooked bhog in a small kitchen in her house. “Every year, she cooks a bhog of khichdi with the other women in her family and then they break their fast collectively. Even the bhog that’s cooked for the masses has to be approved by her,” said a family member.
