Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee’s supplementary question on the reason the government is depriving Bengal by not sending the funds for MGNREGS, after excluding those who, according to it, have been added wrongly to the list of beneficiaries
Sir, for the last three years, we have been repeatedly raising an issue that the benefits of MGNREGA are not being extended to the State of West Bengal. The answer from the hon. Minister on this point has consistently been this. … You are the hon. Minister. Who has made you the Minister? Sir, the stand which has been taken by the Ministry is this. There are fraudulent cases to the tune of 25 lakh. We are repeatedly asking the Ministry to take immediate steps in this matter. We do not have any objection. You initiate criminal proceedings and arrest those who are found guilty.… We do not have any problem. …But in the name of 25 lakh false cards, you cannot stop the benefits to the 10 crore people of West Bengal. …So, I would like to ask the hon. Minister whether he will implement the scheme or not. If there is corruption, why are you not taking necessary steps to take those, who are found guilty, into custody? You cannot say that the benefits would not be extended to the rest of the people. … Giriraj Singh ji, this is not acceptable. You are a Cabinet Minister, and you are behaving like this. … What is this? … Why Giriraj Singh ji is passing comments?
