Guns can’t show road ahead: Mamata

Mamata Banerjee slammed the chief minister of West Bengal on Saturday for accepting a cheque from the hands of historysheeter Kale Singh a few weeks ago. “I don’t have to go around with a begging bowl. I know how to bring about an industrial revolution in the state. What use is charity of a few lakhs from a person who has cheated others of a few crores? Illegal mining has been going on here due to administrative inaction. There are no jobs and people are being forced into illegally extracting coal. This is causing subsidence and resulting in deaths. We have joined hands with SAIL to set up industry. If the coal ministry desires, we will enter into joint ventures with them as well,†the Trinamool chief said. Insisting that her plans for industrialisation would lead to jobs and ensure the return of people who had migrated to other states, she gave a slight indication of the projects planned for Jangalmahal. On Sunday, Ms. Banerjee would lay the foundation stone for a midlife coach rehabilitation factory at Anara and sign an MoU with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for a 1,000-MW power plant for the railways in Purulia. “Development can’t take place with guns. When the government doesn’t have the capacity to feed people, how can it haul them up for alleged crimes?†she said.
