British High Commissioner meets CM, offers help for state`s development

Kolkata, June 24: British government is ready to provide help to the West Bengal government to improve the economic situation, boost industrial growth and support urban development and health projects, said British High Commissioner to India Richard Stag on Thursday.

Stag met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Writers’ Buildings and offered several packages. He said the CM had some great ideas and found her to be very much enthusiastic.

He said that the British government is also willing to provide support to improve Bengal’s infrastructure. The CM has often expressed her wish to turn Kolkata into London and for that the British government will help her in beautifying the city. The envoy said that the UK will increase its support for urban development and more funds are likely to flow in near future.

About economic revival strategy, he held discussions with Finance Minister Amit Mitra in presence of the CM. He said already the UK had held talks with Indian government about providing certain economic package to Bengal. Even the envoy discussed about how World Bank funds can be tapped by the state government.

“The UK government will encourage British investors to invest in Bengal for new projects”. Stag said British government would strongly support rebuilding of Bengal. He wanted private sectors to invest more in Bengal
