CM requests Medicos to work sincerely, promises job to 50,000 nurses in govt. hospitals
Kolkata, August 25: The 700-budding auxiliary nursing staffs and midwives were taken by surprise to find the Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee addressing the orientation programme at the Town Hall on Wednesday. “Honestly, I was in for the biggest surprise as we had no idea that Ms. Banerjee will be coming for the orientation programme”, said an excited Sanjukta Sen, a candidate who had come to take the orientation programme. Well, not Sanjukta alone but this was the common sentiments around.
Ms. Mamata Banerjee while addressing the gathering said, “I want to revamp the system completely and I need more participation from the young generation since I strongly believe that no change is possible without the youth. I am confident that you all will realize your duty and help us to reach our goal”. She requested the youth not to run after money as they must understand that they are in noble profession and to serve the society should be their foremost concern. “I feel you all will agree that the biggest reward for you should be the smile on your patient’s face after being cured”, added Ms. Banerjee.
Incidentally, the Chief Minister convened a meeting with the senior government doctors across the state on June 13 at Town Hall and issued strictures instead of lamenting over the infrastructure and funds they should give top priority to patients and treat them with a smile on their face. Apart from that she also advised them to pay attention on cleanliness in the hospitals and to maintain punctuality. The meeting was an outcome of the experience Ms. Banerjee had after initiating a series of surprise visits across government hospitals after assuming office.
Ms. Banerjee expressed her concern over the deteriorating health condition in the state, “I am disappointed to see our brains in the field of medicine and other professions are migrating to the
442 doctors and 458 nurses have already been inducted in the health department. During the orientation programme on Wednesday Ms. Banerjee promised those present there will receive their appointment letters within next 15-days and requested them to work with utmost sincerity and dedication. The announcement was received with a large round of applause from the audience who shouted back assuring their favourite `didi` of their conviction to do their utmost to maintain the confidence she ushered in them.
