100 Days Wonder – Jangalmahal and Hills on Ma, Mati, Manush reach

Trinamool Congress led Ms. Mamata Banerjee`s government completes 100-days in office today. During these 100-days she has taken up various issues and tried hard to resolve the stalemate situation in the hills and initiating dialogues. Some of them have received immense success while the rest are in the pipeline.
Ms. Banerjee who has been vocal showing her concern over the issues relating to the deteriorating law and order situation in the Jangalmahal and hills of Darjeeling wasted no time in talks after assuming power and took up the issue personally. She herself went to these terror-affected places initiating talks with both the separatists and the locals and assured them that if the militants give up terror then they will be inducted in the mainstream she not only initiated talks with leaders but also convened repeated talks with locals.
* Historic Gorkhaland Territorial Agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister and Chief Minister on July 18, 2011.
* CM gives the consent for talks with Maoists after receiving positive response from the rebel leadership to the government’s peace initiative in Jungle Mahal on July 29, 2011.
* CM urges Left Radicals to lay down arms and come back to society, assures that her government will help them financially on August 12, 2011.
Finally, her initiative brought back peace in the Jangalmahal and Darjeeling bringing a new awakening. Not An easy job though, as for so many years Dooars and Terai experienced a volatile situation.
The recent initiative taken by her has been able to instigate the level of confidence and zeal to create the tourism market especially opening the closed tea estates in Dooars. Many of the tour operators across the state are again thing afresh how to develop tourism packages for the tourists interested to visit the hills. The Chief Minister has also assured considerable support from her government in development of the tourism in the state.
