Vrindavan widows to meet WB Women and Child Development Minister today
Over fifty widows from the holy city ofVrindavan arrived 'home' in Kolkata on Friday to participate in the Durga Pujafestival. The widows, along with the representatives of NGO SulabhInternational, will meet West Bengal Minister for Women and Child Development DrShashi Panja.

They also met the Governor and discussedtheir problems. The Governor, who presented them mementos, said God had beenunkind to these women, who, after being rejected by their families, had to livefar from their homes.
“Oldpeople being abandoned by their children is a problem all over the country. Thesituation in West Bengal is not an isolated case as there are many widowsresiding in Vrindavan who hail from other States as well,” Dr Shashi Panja said.
Trip down memory lane
Taking a trip down memory lane, the widowstook a ferry across the river Ganga and visited some city landmarks during thetour. Apart from visiting Puja pandals, they plan to visit Kalighat temple andVictoria Memorial too.
Last year, West Bengal Chief Minister MsMamata Banerjee met the Vrindavan widows during the inauguration of a pandal inSouth Kolkata. She had handed over plain white sarees to them and had spenttime talking to them.
