Kolkata to be transformed into `City of Lights` during Durga Puja

Kolkata Municipal Corporation hasassociated itself with the West Bengal Tourism department to present to themillions of visitors a 'City of Lights' during the Durga Puja. 

KMC has set up lit-upgates at every entry and exit points of the city; they have also decoratedheritage buildings and important crossings with a chain of lights.

Lighting up the city is a first of a kindinitiative of the government and KMC. Temporary Light gates have been set up atHowrah bridge and second Hooghly bridge, both connecting Howrah with Kolkata.

Important crossings that have beenilluminated are Shyambazar, Dalhousie, Park Street, Elliot Park, RabindraSadan, National Library, Belvedere Road, Hazra, Rashbehari Avenue, GariahatBridge (East & West parapet) and the entire stretch of the Hooghlyriverfront.

A few months ago, a stretch of a water body- Nayanjuli – from Lake Town to Bangur off VIP Road opposite Keshtopur canalgot a makeover with sidewalks, decorative lightings, palm trees and a bridgedecorated with lights. Kolkata Municipal Corporation has also taken upbeautification work afresh at Elliot Park in central Kolkata.
