WB CM recalls Swami Vivekananda`s message of universal brotherhood

Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee todayrecalled the message of universal brotherhood spread by Swami Vivekananda onthe 121st anniversary of the historic speech at World Parliament ofReligion.

She said Swami Vivekananda has preached theessence of universal brotherhood to the world on this day. His message is stillrelevant to the present day society. Vivekananda's speech channelled the spiritand sense of universality of the Parliament of the world's religions.

According to Ms Banerjee, Vivekananda'sChicago speech marked the beginning of Western interest in Indian values.  The content of the speech has an irresistibleappeal even today. A section of Western and Islamic societies, which are filledwith religious chauvinism, still have much to learn from Swami Vivekananda'sChicago address.

Swami Vivekananda's Chicago speechcontinues to have the potential to bring about genuine universal brotherhood.

On Facebook, she wrote:

On this day of 1893, that is 121 years ago,Swami Vivekananda had delivered the historic Chicago address. Today I attendedthe commemoration ceremony of that historic address of Swamiji organized by theRamakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark at Nazrul Mancha.

In his address, Swamiji mesmerized hisaudience with the electrifying effect of his address, echoing the spiritual andcultural heritage of our country spanning over almost 5000 years.

Swamiji symbolizes positivism. GurudevRabindranath Tagore once said, “In him, everything is positive, nothing isnegative”. He believed in human dignity. To him, “strength is life, weakness isdeath”.

We, once again, humbly paid our deepestreverence to Swamiji in today's occasion and upheld his great spirit andmessage.
