Critical care unit, health camp for Gangasagar pilgrims
The State Health Department is planning to set up a critical care unit close to the pilgrimage site of Gangasagar to cater to the pilgrims during Sagar Mela in January. A health centre equipped with adequate number of beds and having outdoor facilities would also be set up at Outram Ghat in January for Gangasagar pilgrims.
Senior health officials recently held a meeting at Swasthya Bhawan in this connection, where various issues related to the treatment of the pilgrims were discussed at length.
According to officials, there are plans to keep air ambulances on the island for airlifting patients to health facilities in Kolkata. Health camps would be organised by the department at Sealdah and Howrah stations.
The State Government is expecting a higher number of pilgrims next year, to cater to whom the number of buses would be increased by the Transport department (to ferry the pilgrims from Outram Ghat).
