Trinamool Cong Govt successfully encouraging sports activities

The State Youth Services and Sports Department has had several commendable achievements under the Trinamool Congress Government, from creating infrastructure, including grassroots infrastructure and academies, to organising annual tournaments across the State to giving awards to achievers in both active playing and coaching.
Achievements in brief:
Infrastructure
Assistance to coaching camps: 221 coaching camps have been assisted, with Rs 1 lakh for each camp
Development of playgrounds: Financial assistance given to 373 schools, colleges, universities and clubs for the development of playgrounds.
Multi-gyms: Financial assistance given to nearly 3,000 schools, colleges, universities and clubs for setting up of multi-gyms
Mini indoor games complexes: Financial assistance given to more than 635 schools, colleges, universities, clubs and organisations for setting up mini indoor games complexes
Distribution of footballs: Keeping the FIFA-U17 World Cup in view, 1.25 lakh footballs distributed to schools, colleges, universities and clubs
Bengal Football Academy: The only one of its kind in the entire country, inaugurated at Khardah Vivekananda Stadium, North 24 Parganas
Archery academy: Archery academy set up in Jhargram
National Centre of Excellence for football: Being developed at Rajarhat, in association with AIFF
Grants to clubs: More than 18,000 clubs and other organisations given financial assistance for sports activities and development of sports infrastructure since 2014-15
Tournaments
Annual tournaments: Jangalmahal Cup, Rangamati Sports Festival, Sundarban Cup and Cooch Behar Cup Sports Competition
Under-17 FIFA World Cup: Tournament organised successfully at the fully renovated Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, better known as Salt Lake Stadium; 14 matches, including quarter final, semi-final and final, held there
Awards
Khelashree Scheme: Grants-in-aid to the tune of Rs 2 lakh each sanctioned in favour of clubs/organisations/sports associations for development of sports activities
Khel Samman Award: Award for current achievers, carrying cash prize of Rs 50,000
Banglar Gaurav Award: Award for past players who have brought glory to Bangla through achievements at the state, national or international level, carrying a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh
Krira Guru Award: For sports coaches, carrying a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh
Lifetime Achievement Award: For extremely well-respected and internationally renowned sportspersons from Bangla, carrying a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh
Mountaineering awards: For Radhanath Sikdar-Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award, Rs 1 lakh given to 20 mountaineers and for Chhanda Gayen Bravery Award, Rs 75,000 given to 4 female mountaineers
Cash prizes: Cash prizes given to medal winners in the National Games for the very first time – Rs 5 lakh to gold medallists, Rs 3 lakh to silver medallists, Rs 2 lakh to bronze medallists
Financial assistance: Rs 12,000 per month pension being given to four ex-Olympians; renowned former sportspersons covered under Khadya Sathi
