Green drive: KMC to gift saplings to guests at its programmes
In another green drive, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to gift saplings and plants to VIPs and other guests at programmes organised by it, instead of bouquets.
According to the mayor, presenting flower bouquets to guests in a civic function looks nice but was a complete waste of civic resources as majority of the guests who receive such bouquets leave them on the dais once the function is over
Presenting a sapling or a plant, on the other hand, will have a long-lasting effect as it will go a long way in making the city green.
He said that this initiative will set an example for other civic bodies in the State and State departments to follow.
To ensure the production of more saplings, capacities of the corporations’ central nursery at Tallah and other nurseries in the boroughs will be enhanced.
